Nano diamond coated dies

3 strengths of the new supply chains with Vassena diamond-covered core

Vassena Filiere has recently introduced a new technology in its range: the chains with a nano-diamond-coated core (NDCD) also for bars and pipes – up to a maximum diameter of 60 mm – which offer promising advantages for production compared to traditional carbide supply chains of Tungsten. Let’s see what the strengths are.

Chain with core coated in nano diamond: characteristics and advantages

The nano-diamond coating is applied by chemical steam deposition (CVD – Chemical Vapor Deposition) and gives the supply chain a hardness, a resistance to theExceptional wear and surface finish, resulting in longer durability, better wire quality, higher drawing speeds and heat resistance. These characteristics make it ideal for drawing both carbon and non-ferrous metal wires.

The new series of chains with Vassena branded nano-diamond core (NDCD) is available with a range of diameters from 0.40 to 60 mm; Available for both wires and bars and pipes. For their manufacture, the company uses only first choice materials, including those supplied by the company Hyperion, with which Vassena Fiera has been collaborating for over 30 years. For this special product, the company has moved production to a factory dedicated solely to these special chains, where every production process is monitored and controlled. Furthermore, depending on the customer’s needs, the chains with core covered in Nano Diamante Vassena can be customized according to the required technical specifications.

Increased hardness

As anticipated, thanks to the diamond coating, these chains reach a high level of hardness, measured at 10,000 Vickers. In comparison, tungsten carbide supply chains, commonly used inindustry, appear considerably softer and less resistant. The chains of the Diamante series are therefore the ideal choice for drawing medium-carbon and wire wires in non-ferrous materials, such as copper, brass, aluminum and titanium.

prolonged resistance

The greater hardness of the Vassena supply chains also makes them incredibly durable. Compared to tungsten carbide supply chains, it is estimated that diamond-coated core chains can last up to 30 times longer. this leads to a significant leap forward with respect toTraditional use, in which a difference in duration of 1 to 30 was common only on non-ferrous and low-carbon materials.

Friction reduction

An additional advantage of the nano-diamond coating chains is a significant reduction in the coefficient of friction during theExtrusion. This has various benefits, including less wear of the supply chains, lower lubricant consumption and a reduction inenergy required for lwhole process.

The diamond-coated core, therefore, not only helps to improve theDell efficiencyWhole drawing process, but also reduces overall operating costs. For this reason, in fact, Vassena has used this technology throughout the production range, including the VG402R chains with pressure compass, the flagship of the company.
